On September 23rd 2025, Braxted Park Estate hosted an exciting, hands-on festival, Let’s Talk Trash. School year groups 6 and 7 were invited to take part in an immersive, interactive day filled with engaging activities, educational workshops, and fun challenges. Together, participants explored ways to create a cleaner, greener future—while having a fantastic time.
Students gained valuable insights into the environmental impact of littering and were inspired to drive positive change. Throughout the day, they took part in a variety of exciting activities, including:
Presentations on the effects of littering and how individuals can make a difference
Hands-on workshops designed to spark creativity and encourage eco-friendly habits
Theatre performances that brought the message of environmental responsibility to life
All activities took place across interactive zones, where students explored, engaged, and learned in a dynamic environment.
In addition, the event featured guest speakers from environmental organisations and businesses, alongside representatives from companies working to reduce waste and promote sustainability.
Throughout the day, students will engage in interactive zones designed to educate and inspire them about climate issues through a variety of hands-on activities.
One of the key highlights will be a deep dive into the journey of our litter after it’s thrown in the bin. Students will discover how Maldon is home to one of the world’s most advanced AI-led recycling plants. At Big Green Recycling, robots sort over 1,000 pieces of waste per minute, showcasing the power of technology in tackling environmental challenges.
Aligned with the Department for Education’s (DfE) sustainability leadership and climate action plans initiative, Let’s Talk Trash is the perfect opportunity for schools to take action. With the new directive that all educational settings must appoint a sustainability lead and implement a climate action plan, this event offers a hands-on way for students to engage with environmental issues and contribute to meaningful change. It’s an ideal way to kickstart or enhance your school’s sustainability efforts!
On Tuesday 23rd July 2023, over 300 students flocked to the grounds of the estate to take part in a number of exciting and engaging activities. Among the highlights was a motivational talk by RAF veteran Duncan Slater, who encouraged students to rethink their attitudes towards littering and to take a stand in doing what's right.
Throughout the day, students took part in seven interactive zones where they enjoyed a quiz and bird feeder building with Essex Wildlife Trust, immersive theatre from Big Wheel Theatre Company and an array of hands-on activities including creating bug hotels and analysing the wildlife found in Braxted Park’s lakes.
“The team and I were delighted to host such an important and motivating event at Braxted Park Estate, all made possible thanks to the ECC Climate Action Challenge Fund," said owner Duncan Clark.
